STOP PRESS

Golborne declared ‘poorest ward in London’

Councillors call for all-party plan to tackle ‘the most deprived ward in London’ in the richest borough in Europe
New GLA figures naming Golborne in North Kensington as the joint poorest ward in London on ‘extent measure’ has prompted Councillors to propose urgent cross-party action.
Cllr Emma Dent Coad, who brought the report to light at a rowdy Council meeting in March, states: ‘Kensington and Chelsea Tories may be surprised, but for Councillors working in Golborne it is no surprise at all. We are seeing appalling dental health in young children, people of all ages economising on food, threats of eviction, debt, ill health and depression.’ Cllr Dent Coad is already working with local community groups who are experiencing cuts, to see how best to work together to target the neediest. Read the story on Kensal Gasworks to see what Cllr Mason is proposing.

A first step is to enable the ClementJames Centre’s hugely successful IntoWork programme, which helps workless people overcome barriers to work and links them with training and jobs, to set up weekly sessions at the Venture Centre in Wornington Road.

Ward surgeries, where constituents can come without appointment to talk to a Councillor, are held every Monday evening (except in August and Bank Holidays), 7-8pm at the Venture Centre, Wornington Road, W10. We will try to meet you at other times if possible; please be patient, Councillors work part-time and have jobs as well.

Councillors will if possible attend Residents' Association meetings and come an hour early for Surgery by request.
